Yesterday marked a significant milestone as the resurfacing of the Lake Garnett Raceway was officially completed, ensuring the track’s legacy will endure for years to come. To celebrate this achievement, Tracy Modlin, president of the Lake Garnett Grand Prix Revival (LGGPR), presented a check for $90,428.60 to the Garnett City Commission last night, with the funds coming directly from the “Save the Track” initiative.
This fund, made possible by the generous donations of countless supporters, plus major contributions from the City of Garnett, Goppert State Service Bank, Kansas Tourism, Thrive Allen County, and McAnany Construction Inc., is a testament to the passion and dedication of the LGGPR community.
Thanks to these efforts, the historic Lake Garnett Raceway has roared back to life with a fresh asphalt surface and crucial repairs to a pair of bridges. Lake Garnett is now ready to host motorsport enthusiasts once again, honoring its past while paving the way for future events.
The resurfacing of Lake Garnett Raceway is more than just an upgrade—it’s a revival of a tradition that drew massive crowds and famous drivers like Ken Miles and Don Yenko during the track’s heyday. The Lake Garnett Grand Prix Revival, which began in 2013 as a tribute to the legendary races, has since become an annual celebration that attracts sports car enthusiasts from across the country. Events include autocross, track sessions for drivers of all skill levels, a car show, and charity rides, allowing participants to experience the thrill of this historic course firsthand.
The 11th Annual Lake Garnett Grand Prix Revival, scheduled for this October 12-13, 2024, will be the first event to take place on the newly resurfaced track, promising an exciting and nostalgic return to one of the midwest’s most storied sports car tracks.
